ENTITY reports why you should go strawless.

Over 500 million brand new straws are used every day only to be thrown away 20 minutes later, according to the National Park Service.

And if you need a little help understanding how much 500 million straws is, just think of 125 school buses being filled with straws each day. Although straws are relatively small and don’t seem like they’d do much damage, the number of straws people waste each day adds up.

Because of this, ENTITY thinks it’s time for you to say “see you never” to straws. Need a little more convincing? Keep reading.

1 Straws are single-use plastics.

Chances are, you use a straw once, you finish your drink and then you throw out the straw. Three quick steps and you’ve reached the end of your straw’s consumer lifetime. Just think about how wasteful that is.

Although your straw is now probably out of sight and out of mind for you, plastic is something that lasts forever. It’s not just going to disappear because you threw it away. Because of this, plastic should really be reused. However, single-use plastics like straws end up polluting the Earth.

A good solution to this is to stop using single-use plastics – starting with straws.

2 Straws are filling up the oceans.

Plastic straws recently made the “top 10” items picked up during beach cleanups. So when you throw out your 20-minute straw, there’s very a good chance it will end up in the ocean, on the beach or worse, inside an animal.

3 You don’t actually need a straw.

If you think about it, straws are completely unnecessary. You don’t need that big green straw at Starbucks to enjoy your venti iced latte. And you definitely don’t need those little red straws bartenders slip into your glass to sip your go-to cocktail at your favorite restaurant.

Say “no thanks” to straws and just take a sip directly from the cup.

4 Using straws is a breakable bad habit.

If you’re convinced you can’t end your relationship to straws, think again.

Start by exercising these three steps: Reminder, Routine and Reward.

Each time you find yourself in a possible straw-tuation, remind yourself that they are unnecessary. Get into the routine of asking for drinks without straws. Then, reward yourself with the positive thought that you are making a difference.

5 For those still having a hard time, there are alternatives to straws.

Did you know reusable straws exist? You can buy yourself some sustainable and stylish, metal or bamboo straws that you can reuse. You can also stock your home with paper straws.

And for date nights, just remember to always BYOS (bring your own straw) so you don’t use the plastic ones found at restaurants.

All in all, small choices have big impacts. Make the right choice today by saying “see you never” to straws and joining the #stopsucking movement.
