ENTITY gives career tips.

We all want to push ourselves to be the best that we can be in our field. The number one person who will help you succeed is staring at you in the mirror every day. There are three simple things you can do to advance your career.

These tips come from a woman who has truly made it in her own right. Sybil Grieb, U.S. Head of Influencer Strategy and Activation at Edelman gave some key tips while she spoke at the ENTITY Academy which even she uses today to advance her own career.

1. Network

Take advantage of your network. Be prepared. Show them why they want you.

Your net-worth is your network. The ability to make connections, but sustain and strengthen them is crucial. Therefore when you have the opportunity to present yourself to your network, be prepared. Know what your goal is going into the coffee date, board room or one-on-one meeting. Do your research and have the knowledge to will impress your co-workers and friends. Give them a reason that they need you and show them what niche you bring to the table.

2. Be Seen

Have three to five people in your office know what you are doing.

It can be a scary world out there and you could get lost in a corporate office. Sybil suggests having some allies on the inside to make sure you have a core group that has got your back to either save you or promote you!

Having a mentor in your workplace can be an important factor in the advancement of your career. Having a mentor will give you more knowledge, provide feedback for both professional and personal growth and even befriend you in the office. Be sure to find your match wherever you work!

3. Communicate

Send weekly emails to a select few co-workers ahead of you so they know what great work you’ve been up to all week!

Something Sybil still does, to this day, is ensuring she sends a weekly email on Friday to a couple of her co-workers that either manage her department or relating department. Not only do these emails give her bosses a list of what she’s been up to all week, but she recommends you also use them as self-motivation! It allows you to look at what you accomplished each week; either to shut out self-pity or to ignite a fire in you to strive for more next week.

Make sure to use professional etiquette, use a direct subject line and proofread before you hit send! If you are unsure about email etiquette look here for some quick tips.

So what does this mean for you? Network, be seen and communicate in your career. Stay motivated and go after what you want. Make sure you don’t forget about your friends when you make it big in your own career!
