How many different sandwiches have you had in your life? From the classic PB&J your mom used to pack in your lunchbox to the egg salad sandwiches you have for breakfast, sandwiches come in diverse shapes, sizes and flavors.

According to PBS, sandwiches first appeared in American cookbooks in 1816. By this time, their fillings were no longer limited to cold meat. Instead, recipes called for various things such as cheese, fruit, nuts and mushrooms. Through the years, however, people channeled their artistic side and began adding even more toppings, condiments and fillings to make the sandwiches you eat today.

And to show how different sandwiches are today, Bon Appétit put together this video of children trying out sandwiches that were popularized in the past 100 years. Some of these sandwiches include the po’ boy, the chicken sandwich and the gyro!

Check the entertaining video out to see if you’ve had any of these sandwiches!
