Last month, the photo of five-year-old Omran Daqneesh covered in blood and dust while sitting alone in an ambulance left people speechless. However, six-year-old Alex from New York, had just the right words to say.

In his touching letter to the White House, Alex asks President Obama, “Remember the boy who was picked up by the ambulance in Syria? Can you please go get him and bring him to [my home]?” Throughout the letter, Alex assures the president that he would take good care of Omran Daqneesh. Daqneesh would become part of the family; Alex and his sister, Catherine, would share their toys and the siblings would teach Daqneesh English.

“We will give him a family and he will be our brother,” says Alex.

President Obama then shared the inspirational video of Alex reading his letter on Facebook. The trending video has received over 18 million views worldwide and users were quick to praise the young boy for his generosity, kindness and hospitality.

The video then closes with a reflection from President Obama who says, “The humanity that a young child can display, who hasn’t learned to be cynical, or suspicious, or fearful of other people because of where they’re from, or how they look, or how they pray. We can all learn from Alex.”
