Sayeg is changing the way we see textile art by creating fun and unusual art pieces that catch our attention. According to StyleBlueprint, Sayeg first began knitting around the ages of 15 and 16. The first thing she knitted was a scarf she made for her boyfriend at the time. She continued knitting after joining a knitting circle. Sayeg created the art form we know now as yarn bombing by mistake. When she decided one day that she wanted to put the words knitting in knitted letters on the handle of her boutique’s door nob. Thus, the concept of yarn bombing was born.

2. Olek

Possibly one of the most famous yarn bombers ever! Olek is a New York-based artist who is originally from Poland. Her art has been exhibited throughout many countries including Brazil, America, the United Kingdom and Germany. Olek’s artwork is eye-catching, whimsical and imaginative and often explores subjects on sexuality and feminism. Even though she prefers to be called an artist rather than a yarn bomber, Olek’s work is seen across the nation on public buildings and sculptures. In an interview for culture.pl, she mentions her distaste with the term. She states, ” I don’t yarn bomb, I make art.”


Olek first began to crochet after moving to New York by rediscovering her talent for crochet. Her most famous work of art is perhaps “knitting is for Pus***” ( 2010)…” An art piece that includes a fully furnished room covered completely in colorful crochet, with vibrant designs and political sayings worked into the art.

3. London Kaye

Originally from Los Angeles, California, London Kaye is a famous crochet artist who has gained a name for herself by exhibiting beautiful, colorful, crochet pieces of art on the streets of cities like New York and Los Angeles. Kaye first tried her hand at crocheting as a child after learning from a friend’s Mom. She first started yarn bombing upon moving to New York, after completing a crochet art challenge that required her to create a new crochet art piece every day for a month. This activity inspired Kaye to continue her creative hobby by frequently displaying her art within the streets. According to her website, she has since collaborated with Lion Brand to create her own line. Kaye has also partnered with Red Valentino, Starbucks, and Gap among others for commissioned works.

4. Kelly Lim

Singaporean Born textile artist Kelly Lim is possibly one of the most innovative crochet artists. Lim is different in the fact that she creates interactive crochet art. At just 23 years old she started selling handmade crochet items through her website. Lim says she always felt misunderstood as an artist. Her parents still question her career choice until this day. Lim’s hope is to change how people view fine art and to inspire other artists like her. When running her online business, Lim, however, felt a void in her art. She believed her art did not reflect what she wanted to say to the world. In an interview with CNA Insider Lim mentioned her trip to Japan inspired her to create interactive art. Lim began to express herself more throughout her art by creating bold, interesting crochet works you touch and feel. Some that have even been commissioned.

5. Stephen Dunier

Stephen Dunier is a Santa Barbara, California based artist changing the way we see nature with his art. According to RootsRated, Dunier has taken the art of yarn bombing to new levels since 2012. While on a family hiking trail, his wife suggested he start knitting as a way to learn resolution. A huge nature fan you can see Dunier’s colorful artwork on the mountain trails of Santa Barbara.
