LOS ANGELES — Venice’s G2 Gallery launched a new annual event, The Young Environmentalists Symposium, on Thursday. The symposium featured panelists in their twenties and thirties who have stellar sustainability and advocacy accomplishments.

Diane Shrader Smith, public relations director at G2 Gallery, is largely responsible for creating the event. The idea came to her when she saw a young man walking the beach alone, a small camera in hand, filming critters along the shoreline. He told Diane that he was creating a documentary showing the dramatic changes taking place on the beach he had come to love.  After this encounter, she decided to showcase the efforts of young environmentalists struggling to get their work noticed.

Since Diane’s walk through Malibu, the gallery has worked with partnering schools and community contacts to line up a group of enthusiastic panelists for the Young Environmentalist Symposium. Each featured environmentalist has a unique passion and background. What they all have in common is the proven potential to make their world more sustainable.

From conservation biology to promotion of urban open spaces, panelists at the Young Environmentalist Symposium are sure to impress with their dedication and expertise. Check back for Sierra Club Green Home’s series profiling these inspiring activists!
