Are you having trouble falling asleep at night? Do you feel stressed when you go to bed and stressed when you wake up in the morning? Does the air you breathe at night smell dusty or unclean? One way to combat these issues is by including some green, natural life in your bedroom. Plants love the CO2 you exhale and you need the oxygen they give off—so it’s a win-win!
Below is ENTITY’s list of some of the best trendy and healthy plants for your bedroom, organized by the amount of sunlight exposure each plant needs.
Sunlight: High
Dr. Bryan Raudenbush, an Associate Professor of Psychology at Wheeling Jesuit University, conducted a study and found that people who breathed in jasmine while they slept experienced a deeper, less restless sleep. On top of that, they woke up feeling less stressed and more cognizant. Talk about some serious beauty sleep!

What’s nice about aloe is that it won’t die right away if you don’t regularly water it. Aloe improves air quality by absorbing formaldehyde, a chemical used in many household materials and products. Not only that, but aloe has known calming and healing effects, both mental and physical. The best part? This natural art piece is a wonderful, bright green shade!
Sunlight: High
Gardenias bloom beautiful, rose-like white flowers. In a study that tested participants for two weeks, the active compound in gardenias, crocetin, was shown to enhance sleep quality. They grow best in climates with warm days and cool nights. Is Gardenia the soulmate for your heart (and location)?

These perky purple flowers are too sweet to pass up. A study published in Chronobiology International on olfactory exposure during sleep showed that lavender “serves as a mild sedative,” and it has also been shown to decrease rapid-eye movement, which eases the falling asleep process. Plus, lavender is elegant; after all, purple is the color of royalty.
Sunlight: Low
Spider plants are great for hanging baskets because their leaves are long and hang over the sides. These plants are also known to remove formaldehyde and can improve air cleanliness from longer distances. A spider plant’s strength is its ability to grow in minimal light environments, making it ideal for indoors. Just sit back and watch it grow!
Sunlight: Low
According to Daily Health Post, an advantage of snake plants is that they don’t need to be watered very often. They are also great indoors, particularly in the bedroom. They’ve even been nicknamed “the bedroom plant” because of the amount of oxygen they emit at nighttime. Are these guys glam or what?
For those of you interested in caring for any of these plants, here are some tips for plant maintenance:
– Make sure dogs or children will not ingest your plants, because doing so may be harmful! Check to see which ones are most suitable for your home environment.
– Dust or wipe plant leaves about once a week to assure plant freshness. The last thing you want is clogged pores!
– Research how often the plant you buy needs to be watered. Underwatering and overwatering are some of the most common ways plants die, so remember to hand them off to a friend if you go traveling.
There are many plants out there that can help you sleep and it’s your job to find which one you like best! Once you’ve found the plant for you, just let the air purification begin and the sleep come peacefully.
