Entity reports that NC children protest Trump’s immigration policies, forcing the middle school into lockdown.

Just because they’re children, doesn’t mean they’re not paying attention to politics.

That’s what the students at Garinger High School proved Friday morning, when their protest was so big it forced the school district to put Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School on lockdown.

At least 100 students left the high school campus following a protest, which had the school district scrambling to ensure the younger children stayed in class.

NC children continue to protest Trump and his immigration policies, with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools facing second major walkout in weeks.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said they had been made aware of planned protests at three of their schools: South Mecklenburg High School, Olympic Community of Schools and the middle school.

The most I was involved in politics as a kid was when I joined my third grade class in protesting a rule banning beanie babies… for about three minutes. These kids really know what’s up.

And this isn’t even the first time they’ve organized a walkout. Last Friday the students received an early dismissal after protesting led to hundreds walking off campus.

The protest was the students’ effort to speak out against immigration issues and ICE arrests across the country. It comes just days after the Department of Homeland Security revealed that they would be taking a much stricter approach to carrying out President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

The crackdown – which has seen complaints from celebrities and activists like America Ferrera and Ashton Kutcher – comes after Trump was furious at having an appeals court refuse to reinstate his Muslim ban.

For students like senior Malk Torres, 18, the protests are important because they’re hoping their message will eventually get back to the White House. Torres, who is part Puerto Rican, told wsoctv.com, “I hope that some word can get out even all the way to DC saying Latinos just want to be heard and live a peaceful life.”

We’d be remiss to not emphasize how important it is to get a good education, but that being said… Props to you, CMS students. And here’s us doing our part in getting your message heard.
