Entity reports on the highly-anticipated "Hamilton" documentary that will come to PBS.

If you weren’t able to get your hands on a ticket for the hip-hop musical “Hamilton,” it’s not the end of the world. In January, PBS announced that they will produce “Hamilton’s America,” a documentary about the making of the trending Broadway hit.

The two-hour documentary will kick off the network’s “Great Performances” series this fall. It follows Lin-Manuel Miranda and his colleagues in the two-year lead up to “Hamilton”’s debut and will include exclusive interviews with experts and celebrities. It will also feature never-before-seen footage from the production in New York as the documentary team follows the cast as they grapple with their characters’ very real history.

Beth Hoppe, Chief Programming Executive for PBS is very excited for the premiere saying, “With this level of access to Lin-Manuel Miranda and his team, PBS continues to live up to our mission of giving viewers a backstage pass and front row seat to the arts.”

The film’s executive producer David Horn says, “Since we presented ‘In the Heights: Chasing Broadway Dreams’ in 2009, we’ve been taken by Lin-Manuel’s unique talents and we’re honored to collaborate with him again on ‘Hamilton’s America.’ The film will offer audiences a fascinating point of view as we witness first-hand Lin’s inspiration and creative process, as well as the lasting impact of Alexander Hamilton on our society today.”

There is not news yet on the official release date for the documentary, but Hamiltonians will surely be racing to watch it. Whether you’ve seen the trending musical or not, it offers viewers a chance to see Miranda’s inspiration behind the entertainment sensation all and how the show ended up as one of the best musicals of the season.
