People may know her as Lebron James’s wife — but that’s certainly not the most interesting thing about Savannah Brinson.
She’s a designer, philanthropist, businesswoman and mother, and definitely someone we’d call a #womanthatdoes.
So to shine a light on the more elusive member of the James family, Entity shares five facts you should know about Savannah Brinson.
Inspired by her children, Samantha Brinson has partnered with American Signature to begin her own line of furniture called Home Court. Originally a collaborative idea between the two, Lebron ultimately gave full control of the project over to his aesthetically-inclined wife.
Brinson puts her heart and soul into this project, “I designed every piece for a different reason and purpose so I love each one.”
For Brinson, giving is more than just a feel-good gesture — it’s a full-blown lifestyle. Brinson spoke to Essence news about the dress drive she began for women without the means to pay for a nice prom dress:
“My favorite moment was when a young lady who put on a dress would not stop crying. We told her how beautiful she was. She said, ‘I’m just so excited. I just never thought that this would happen for me.’ That’s why I do it. Those exact words she said, because she deserves it.”
Savannah shushes the criticisms of her net worth with these simple acts of kindness — the tangible giving of happiness to another human being.
Despite the star factor that comes with the James family dynamic, Brinson does not feel the urge to be so candid about her personal life. She spoke to Essence News about her principles of social media sharing, “With all the social media outlets, I feel like I have the choice to show you what I want to show you.”
Even with the modern inventions of platform heels and stilettos, it is difficult to meet a 6’8″ basketball player at eye level. “I’m five-foot-seven and I have a tall guy, so I like a good heel,” Brinson told Bazaar magazine. “I don’t want to look like a shrimp standing next to him.”
Most Lebron James fans know that he met his wife in high school. What some do not know is how early they had their first child — which was right after their high school graduation. When Savannah found out she was pregnant during her senior year, she continued with the pregnancy — and was even pregnant during prom season.
In the years between their first pregnancy and marriage, she took some heat for the lack of a ring. However, Brinson handled the “baby mama” labels with grace:
“I’m the mother of his children,” she had told Bazaar in a 2010 interview. “I’m not a baby mama. There’s a lot more to me than that.”
Savannah Brinson may not have the majority of the spotlight in her family, but her achievements still need the credit they deserve. Cheers to you, Savannah — keep up the good work.
