Abbi and Lana make small one to three-minute webisodes that explore their everyday trials in between and sometimes even during seasons. The 2017 webisodes have been especially hilarious as the fans wait for “Broad City” season four. For those that want to know what “Broad City’s” new season has in store for us, view this article where we dissect the trailer.
For those that need “Broad City” in your life right now because you’ve already watched the trailer or are having Abbi and Lana withdrawals – these are the mini episodes you’ve been waiting for.
As we stated earlier, these mini-webisodes are just bite-sized versions of the full episodes. So they act as great pick-me-ups before your morning coffee or the perfect videos to check out in between the time you get into bed and you go to sleep.
From their webisode where they mix smoothies while talking smack to each other to their webisode about Lana’s grandmother’s anti-productive stain removal rituals, these videos will definitely have you rolling. A part of us wishes a few of these can be expanded to an entire episode.
For example, their Yom Kippur webisode, where they explore the trials of fasting for 25 hours could have been drawn out for an entire episode. Can you imagine a whole episode where they still have to go to work or run errands on that day? And then at the same time, everyone around them was grilling food in food trucks and baking things. This would go on all day and both would cheat on Yom Kippur by eating but would have to sneak to the restroom or hide behind bums to get a quick bite.
These webisodes aren’t lacking in Abbi and Lana friendship moments. Because they focus on one moment instead of a plot, the videos center around revealing banter between the two. It takes the aspects that thread the show together (beyond being broke and crazy in Brooklyn) and boils it down to their hilarious relationship.
Their banter creates the tone and atmosphere of the show. As Lana explains in her and Abbi’s Time Magazine interview, the show is predominantly about their love and respect for each other. Its hilarity and heart-warming episodes wouldn’t be as rich if they were constantly fighting with one another.
The “Broad City” online episodes magnify this aspect and create all new #friendshipgoals for us to aspire towards.
“Broad City” should be synonymous with random and haphazard situations. Sometimes the women spend a whole day chasing down a lost remote. Other times they end up getting their neighbors almost raped by a joe-dirt-looking locksmith. You never know what will happen next.
And in the webisodes, sometimes the conversation starts about evolution and end with Ilana almost having a heart attack because Abbi starts choking. Other times, it follows their DIY spa days and the predictable dangers that occur with strong chemicals.
Their spontaneity acts as a huge reason we love this show. It’s not about some deep dramas. It centers around funny, feel-good episodes that make you fall more and more in love with the actresses. The genuine stories they tell as best friends are one of the only things threading these episodes together and that’s all we need.
With Lana breathing and Abbi bored, chaos is bound to ensue. Similar to its random qualities – the girls are risk takers, constantly testing their boundaries. The “Broad City” online episodes are no exception. The only difference is all the randomness usually occurs on FaceTime calls since they’re at home. However, we all know talking via computer at home has never kept these two from wilding out.
Would Lana be Lana without doing completely inappropriate things? Would Abbi be Abbi without cheering her on and joining her wild escapades? We think not.
You couldn’t brand anything with the “Broad City” name without something wild going on. You just can’t.
This GIF comes from the new intro that will start airing in the beginning of “Broad City” season four episode one. It screams the confidence and individuality we’ve come to expect from this show. They’re the same qualities they make sure to include in their online episodes. Only Abbi and Lana could believably make a cereal eating marathon a fun event or turn going into work on Columbus Day into a rebellious act.
Just believe us when we say the “Broad City” clips on Hulu won’t tide you over forever. And if your money is running a little low and you can’t even afford streaming “Broad City” online, let alone paying for cable that has the Comedy Central channel, the “Broad City” online episodes will quickly become your best friends.
