ENTITY reports on how Disney's live-action 'Aladdin' is avoiding any accusations of whitewashing.

Disney’s live-action “Aladdin” film is steering clear of any allegations of whitewashing.

On its newly released casting call, it clearly states that producers are looking for Middle Eastern performers to play the movie’s leads, Aladdin and Jasmine.

It looks like Disney is going to avoid the criticisms they originally received about their upcoming live-action remake of another animated favorite, “Mulan.”

Although it was a parody Twitter account that reported Jennifer Lawrence was going to star as Chinese heroine Mulan, controversial recent movie castings of Asian characters such as  Tilda Swinton in “Doctor Strange” and Scarlett Johansson in “”Ghost in the Shell” made the J Law as Mulan rumor plausible enough to launch a #MakeMulanRight movement on social media. It also sparked a petition that received over 110,000 demanding that Disney doesn’t make a whitewashed Mulan.

No casting news has been announced for “Mulan” yet but various Chinese actresses have been linked with the title part. Now comes the “Aladdin” casting information. So, it’s great news that Disney is hearing these concerns.

In Oct. 2016, it was announced that Disney had recruited Guy Ritchie, the stylistic director behind the Robert Downey Jr.-starring “Sherlock Holmes” movies, to direct the live-action “Aladdin,” which will retain many of the musical elements form the 1992 original.

But as of now, one of the main concerns of audiences is who would take over Robin Williams’ iconic role as Genie. Many Twitter users agree that it would be very difficult to recast the “right” Genie.

Some have even suggested just using Robin Williams’ voice for the role.

But as producers try and find a solution to this, it looks like “Aladdin” has all the right elements to be a box-office hit like the soon to be released “Beauty and the Beast” live-action remake starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens is expected to become.

Casting announcmenets should be made pretty quickly as the film is being faststracked with rehearsals set to begin in April 2017 with filming on “Aladdin” getting underway in July 2017.
