The women from "Divergent" are badass.
The “Divergent” series took the world by storm.
This series would not be what it is without the women. Whether you read the books or watched the movies, you know that the women made the trilogy what it was. Veronica Roth, the author, gave us a strong woman protagonist, and didn’t let us down. The women of this series show us that through adversity we must continue to be brave and strong.
The women of the “Divergent” series truly gave it their all. They each taught us different lessons that we can carry for the rest of our lives. From Beatrice Prior to Christina, we’re happy to see strong-willed women in novels and movies.
Beatrice Prior played by Shailene Woodley is the main protagonist of the “Divergent” series. During the aptitude test, Beatrice finds out that her test results are inconclusive. Although she was born in Abnegation, she decides to transfer to Dauntless.
Beatrice is Divergent which means that she’s different. She didn’t only fit into one faction, she fits into several. When she gets to Dauntless she changes her name from to Tris which works as her fresh start. Tris is brave and intelligent, but like any person also has fears. Throughout the “Divergent” series, Tris continuously shows her bravery.
Shailene Woodley did an exceptional job at portraying Tris Pior. She brought an innocence to the character, but also a bravery that was unmatched. The casting team for the “Divergent” movies could not have chosen a better person to play this strong protagonist lead. For all the Shailene fans out there, you can watch her on “Big Little Lies” on HBO.
Christina was originally in Candor, but then transferred to Dauntless. She first met Tris when they were on the train going to Dauntless. In addition, they jumped off of the moving train together. They also bonded during their initiation and we see their relationship become stronger over time. Christina goes through a lot, like having her boyfriend killed and getting shot, but she still stays strong through everything.
Zoe Kravitz, the actress who portrayed Christina, is currently also starring on “Big Little Lies.” In November of next year she can be seen in “Fantastic beasts and Where to Find Them 2.”
Jeanine was the leader of Erudite. She was chosen to be the leader based off of her IQ. She was the antagonist of the “Divergent” series. Jeanine created a serum that allowed her to control people. (Talk about scary, right?) In addition, she was not the biggest fan of Abnegation, so she wanted to have them all killed.
Her reasoning behind creating the serum was because she knew what the world outside of the factions looked like, and she didn’t want to go back. In both the book series and movies, Jeanine ends up dying, but at the hands of two different women. Although Jeanine was a little crazy, there’s no denying that she was intelligent.
Kate Winslet, the actress who portrayed Jeanine, can be seen starring in “The Mountain Between Us” and “Wonder Wheel” later this year. Both films are currently in post-production.
Tori Wu is the woman who administered Tris’s aptitude test. She lets Tris know that her test results are inconclusive and discusses the dangers of being Divergent. Tris and Tori end up becoming good friends.
Tori was originally from Erudite, but later transferred to Dauntless. Her brother was a Divergent and was killed. There are many twists and turns in the life of Tori Wu, but until her last breath she stays strong. She always wanted revenge for her brother’s death because Tori thought he had been killed.
However, that wasn’t the case. When Tris meets Tori’s brother, George, she lets him know of her death. Although Tori wanted revenge for her brother’s death, she was always kind to Tris and never discouraged her from being who she was. She simply wanted her to be safe.
Later this year Maggie Q, the actress who portrayed Tori, can be seen in “The Brits Are Coming” and “Slumber.”
The women of the “Divergent” series showed that with bravery and intelligence anything is possible. Of course there were some bumps in the road, but that didn’t stop them from giving everything their all. This group of women will be remembered for a long time.
