Entity reports on Zayn Malik's new memoir "Zayn" and his struggles with anxiety.

Nearly 40 million adults in the United States suffer from anxiety, and pop star Zayn Malik now admits he is one of those sufferers. In his newly released memoir, “Zayn,” the singer and songwriter opens up about his longstanding battle with anxiety.

Since leaving One Direction, Malik has pursued a successful career as a solo artist, but he admits that he felt more “exposed” and “psychologically stressed” without his bandmates alongside him. Sometimes, his anxiety even caused him to cancel some of his shows. “I just couldn’t go through with it,” he writes. “Mentally, the anxiety had won. Physically, I knew I couldn’t function. I would have to pull out.”

As shocking and even heartbreaking as this may be for his fans, Zayn offers some relief. For anyone suffering with the same disease, he reassures them that “anxiety is nothing to be ashamed of.” Malik hopes that being honest about his disorder could encourage others to seek help.

The book also sees him opening up about an eating disorder, sharing with fans the fact he sometimes used to go for days without eating. But he speaks warmly about One Direction and the opportunities being in the band opened up for him.

“This book is my diary of a period of time that I would like to share with you all,” Malik wrote on Instagram. “I hope that there are things in the book that contextualize some of the moments and memories we have all shared together.”
