For the longest time, Rachel Zane has been somewhat of a background character in USA’s “Suits.” But when you pay close attention to her character, she’s actually the heart of the fast-paced lawyer series and she doesn’t get enough credit for it.

Thankfully, though, Rachel has advanced her career in many ways in the last couple of seasons.

She finally got over her test anxiety and took the LSAT. She made moves to connect with the already-established powerhouse, Jessica, and the awesome Donna. These both helped her grow a professional and a woman.

However, season six of “Suits” was largely focused on Donna, Louis, Mike and Harvey as they dealt with their respective dramas. Rachel just got to be the support for their pity parties.

We’re sick of that.

So, we’ve come up with a list of all the things we want for Rachel Zane in season seven because she deserves better.

1 Her Own Personal Story-line about Her Self-Confidence

We’re seven seasons into the show. PSA to USA: Rachel has grown enough to start speaking up for herself more often. She doesn’t need Mike to come to her rescue every time someone challenges her opinions.

Donna and Jessica’s mentorship have taught her to be more headstrong and firm with her decisions. This development needs to continue for the soon-to-be-lawyer, especially when the only thing lawyers seem to do on the show is flex their power muscles in front of one another. Although we love that Rachel has kept her heart, she needs to strengthen her “I’m not playing any games” attitude.

Season seven should focus on her self-confidence. Last season we focused on Mike’s personal growth. He finally got to become a lawyer who does good things. Yay. Then, we got to see Harvey move past his issues with his mother. Cool. Closure. Now we need to see more than a steel poker face from Rachel – let’s see more confidence.

This aspect of her personality was briefly addressed in seasons five and six, when she spent some time with Jessica. But even after that, Rachel still second guesses herself. We’re not saying we need more of the “charmingly” obnoxious self-confidence that Mike and Harvey have; we just need her to make a decision and stick to her guns, no matter what anyone says.

2 Better Rachel Zane Outfits

The thing about #WomenThatDo is that they can conquer the world in a pair of six-inch stilettos and matching matte lipstick. Jessica had this art down to a T. She would strut into the office in one amazing ensemble after another. Although Jessica’s departure from the show is still heartbreaking, it’s time for Rachel to start her own trends.

We understand Jessica’s type of flashy might be too much for Rachel’s more down-to-earth personality, but that doesn’t mean she can’t look like her new tax bracket. As Meghan Markle revealed at the ATX Television Festival, Rachel will be a fully paid lawyer in season seven, which means her checks will represent this promotion.

Besides, Rachel deserves to splurge a bit on herself. She has worked for everything she owns – why shouldn’t she spend her hard-earned money making herself look as good as she feels?

3 Her Dream Wedding

She won’t be paying for her wedding because her father has that all covered. And before you start shaking your heads, we do think Robert Zane will cough up the dough for his child.

It’s not like he still hates Mike. Robert showed that he had moved on the moment he ignored the non-compete clause between Pearson Spector Litt and his own firm, allowing Katrina to work for Louis again. Not only that, but Mike actually acts like the lawyer Robert thought he was to begin with. So why wouldn’t he pay for the wedding?

And since the wedding will continue, Rachel deserves to have the dream wedding she’s always wanted. She deserves an announcement in the The New York Times, an expensive caterer and a guest-list of 300 people. After all that she’s been through to be Mike’s wife, she’s earned the best ceremony money can buy.

4 Rachel Zane’s Career Advancement

Now that Rachel can focus on her career as a full-fledged lawyer, we expect more growth. We hope that one day she’ll have her name up on the wall or maybe even start her own business and rival Zane and Harvey’s firms.

But to get there, Rachel will have to focus on her career as much as she lets Mike focus on his. This would mean long nights at work and spending 90 percent of her time winning cases. It would also mean that she doesn’t have any time for babies – at least not yet.

There have been rumors that Rachel’s next step is to have a child, but we couldn’t be more against that prediction. She has barely had time for herself in the last two years. She deserves more time to build her empire before she can take time off to raise a child.

It’s not that we don’t think Rachel can do both. We just know that she’s the type to sacrifice everything for the people she loves. So, we want to see her reach her potential first.

Rachel loves being a lawyer just as much as Mike does. Therefore, she deserves the time to do what she loves without the stress of other people’s needs.

5 More Friendships or a New Mentor

This is tied to number one in the sense that the show needs to more focus on Rachel’s personal life. The only friends she seems to have are Louis, Harvey and Donna. We used to see her talk to the other associates and go out with them, but now there’s no one left. Katrina seems to be inching toward becoming Rachel’s friend and we would love to see that friendship thrive. Both women are a force to be reckoned with when they’re together.

Or, instead of another friendship, Rachel could have a new mentor. Donna acts as amazing guidance for Rachel in many ways. She helps her keep her head on straight, she gives Rachel someone to confide in and she instills the confidence Rachel needs. However, Jessica played a key role in Rachel’s life as a woman of color who has attained the position Rachel wants someday.

But since Jessica left for Chicago, it would be nice to see someone else guide Rachel as a woman of color because WOC have different experiences – often times their paths are more challenging.

All in all, we hope Rachel Zane gets some or all of these things this coming season, especially since Jessica’s absence leaves more than enough room to explore her character.
