If you think she's like her "New Girl" character Jess, you're wrong.
If you’ve seen shows like “New Girl” and “Weeds” or hit movies like “Elf” and “(500) Days of Summer,” then you know who Zooey Deschanel is. If you haven’t, then stop living under a rock.
The 37-year-old mom and actress is the quirky, funny girl next door we all know and love. But how well do we really know her? For all those “New Girl” diehards, and Zooey fans in general, here are five facts about Zooey that are just as quirky as she is.
Deschanel is one-half of the indie music duo She & Him, along with the musical M. Ward. “While starring in the 2007 film “The Go-Getter,” Deschanel was asked by director Martin Hynes to perform a duet with Ward, who had agreed to helm the movie’s soundtrack” according to ALLMUSIC.
The two later met up again and started recording Deschanel’s original songs, and thus She & Him was born. They currently have six albums out.
Deschanel is a creative business genius. She co-founded the company HelloGiggles, which is an online community for women covering everything from women’s empowerment to fashion.
Time Inc. recently bought the website for an estimated $30 million.
Zooey revealed on her website that she has ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). She stated that doing easy crafts helps her “focus [her] unfocused mind on projects that can be completed very quickly,” Smosh claims.
She joins a handful of other celebrities like Justin Timberlake and Solange Knowles who also suffer from ADHD.
She comes from a famous family. Her dad, Caleb Deschanel is a cinematographer and director, who was the cinematographer for the “National Treasure” movies. Her mom, Mary Jo Deschanel, is an acclaimed actress — and probably where Zooey got the acting bug from. Additionally, her sister Emily is also a celeb, famous for her character “Temperance Brennan” on the hit show “Bones.”
Deschanel has also started her own famous family with her husband Jacob Pechenik. He is a well-known producer who has worked on hit movies like “Jobs” and “The Skeleton Twins.” They have two children, daughter Elsie Otter and son Charlie Wolf, who was born in May 2017.
While Deschanel’s character Jess on “New Girl” loves to have a glass of wine, or multiple, after getting home from her teaching job, her real-life is the exact opposite. The star has stated that she rarely drinks and does not smoke, stating that she does not like alcoholic beverages and bars.
She also has many allergies (including wheat and gluten), which may be why she doesn’t like alcohol.
Ultimately, Zooey Deschanel is a rockstar. She’s a mom, an award-winning actress, writer and businesswoman. Thanks for being an awesome role model, Zooey!
