Excited to see what she does next.
People might recognize Astrid Berges-Frisbey from her most recent role as The Mage in 2017’s “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.”
She starred alongside Charlie Hunnam and Jude Law. Somewhat new to the international lens, Astrid has plenty of experience. ENTITY Mag wants you to get to know this mysterious beauty.
Here are five facts about Astrid Berges-Frisbey.
The beginning of this interview for the 2014 film “I Origins” shows Berges-Frisbey explaining her name. She was born in Barcelona, Spain. Her father was a native Spaniard and her mother is a French-American woman.
Astrid has lived in Spain, France and the Dominican Republic. She’s definitely NO stranger to travel. Vogue, who she occasionally models for, discussed her nomadic tendencies with her in 2015.
Astrid made her feature film debut in 2007’s “The Sea Wall.” She starred as the daughter of “Elle”(2016)’s Isabelle Huppert. Suzanna, Astrid’s character in the film, was a sixteen year-old girl who is seduced by a wealthy, older businessman.
The film takes place in French-Indochina. It unfortunately has a low audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but watch Berges-Frisbey’s performance and decide for yourself.
Astrid’s “big break” came in the form of her supporting role in 2011’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.” The actress made a splash so to speak as the captured mermaid, Syrena. She held her own alongside Geoffrey Rush and Johnny Depp.
In the film, a mermaid’s tear is the key ingredient to gaining eternal life. Syrena then falls in love with Sam Claflin’s captured missionary, Phillip. Our last look at Syrena is her disappearing beneath the waves with her wounded love. Astrid took on the task of learning English for this role.
Berges-Frisbey is definitely a polyglot. She’s fluent in both French, Spanish and Catalan from childhood. But Astrid is also most definitely a quick study.
Not only did she learn English for her role in “On Stranger Tides,” but she learned Italian for her role in 2015’s “Alaska.” Who knows which language could be next. I only wish I was as fast a learner.
Fan-casting is popular to every series, so it stands to reason that back in 2012 a few fans thought Astrid would be a good fit for the role of Lyanna. Ned Stark’s (still somewhat) mysterious sister was revealed to be “Bastard” Jon Snow’s mother in the “Game of Thrones” season six finale.
This confirmed the long-held fan theory that Jon was not Ned’s son, and that the father of the child was Heir Apparent Prince Rhaegar Targaryen. Although Lyanna was a teenager at the time of her death, I think Astrid could’ve pulled it off at the age of 31.
