Many believe that “Being Mary Jane” Season 5 will air on July 18, 2017, but it won’t.

“Being Mary Jane” season 4 episode 10 was not the season 4 finale. In fact,  TVGuide and Shadow and Act indicate that there will be 10 more episodes this season.

It seems Gabrielle Union‘s lawsuit did come to an amicable agreement with BET, and our favorite show isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

“Being Mary Jane” episodes usually air about 10 to 13 a season. So, the confusion doesn’t just stem from the lawsuit. BET decided they wanted to extend season four because the ratings for the hit TV show have been so good, averaging 1.3 million viewers in the live demo and 2.5 million viewers in +3 ratings.

However, Union believes BET only wants to extend the episodes this particular season because her contract demands a raise in season five. BET breaking this contract by extending her “Being Mary Jane” episodes to 20 quickly raised issues for Union.

The contract not only has a raise built-in, but it also covers her worker’s rights. If you read through the document, the contract states that they can’t force her to film more than 15 episodes without a break.

With Gabrielle Union being the powerful woman that stands up for what she believes in and with BET being a huge corporation with the bottom line to worry about – it didn’t look good for the future of the series.

It seems the audience of being Mary Jane has nothing to worry about. “Being Mary Jane” returns July 18th to finish out the series with 10 episodes, and BET released their press statement saying they’ve reached an “amicable” agreement with Union.

We never thought we’d be so happy to see “Being Mary Jane” season four episode 11 flashing across our screens in a headline. The future for the show looked really shaky there for a while.

This also means that there will most likely be a season five. We highly doubt “amicable” would mean they’re no longer business partners. “Being Mary Jane” is one of their highest rated TV shows. Additionally, not many television networks can say they had a huge household name like Gabrielle Union on their network. Sometimes, a little compromise is necessary to get the big W.
