There’s a reason memes have been going viral for years, and it’s mostly so people can make fun of a situation or a person.
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a meme is “an amusing or interesting item (such as a captioned picture or video) or genre of items that is spread widely online especially through social media.”
This probably makes us a sillier generation, but who can resist a good laugh from a harmless Internet image?
Here are ENTITY’s picks for the best memes of all time.
Tard (short for “Tardar Sauce”) was born on April 4, 2012, and by September that year, she became one of the first cats to reach a celebrity status on the internet after her owner posted a picture of her on Reddit. She’s basically famous for sporting a sour frown on her face. And from the looks of things, we gather she’s not too impressed by her life in the limelight.
Tard is so famous that she even has her own website at grumpycats.com where you can find dozens of memes and photographs that document her everyday life as a celebrity feline.
Pro tip: Punctuation saves lives. Seriously.
ENTITY strongly condones any meme that combines humor and education into one hilarious image. And this meme does just that.
It emphasizes the importance of the propers uses of commas, punctuation and grammar. Notice how I use a serial comma to separate the words that make up a list in the previous sentence. This is otherwise known as “the series comma.”
This is definitely one of the funniest dog memes ever. ENTITY just can’t get enough of adorable animals, especially ones who think they are Batman.
This Gene Wilder image from “Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory” has gone viral with many different facetious messages. Others include, “Oh so you were born in 1999? Tell me how much you miss the nineties.” And this zinger, “4,200 religions in the world … Oh, but yours is the right one.”
Here’s one of the best “days of the week” memes that hits a little too close to home no matter what day of the week it is.
To make a long story short: a boy interrupts a girl’s VMA’s speech. The girl writes a sad song. Years later, the boy apologizes.
Then, in 2016 Kim Kardashian gets involved and the internet explodes after a video of Kanye speaking to Taylor Swift goes viral. Swift addressed the controversy by stating, “I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative, one that I never asked to be a part of since 2009.”
Both fans and anti-Swifties alike couldn’t get enough of it!
