Sundance film “Certain Women” delves into the complicated lives of raw characters with realism and beauty.

The indie flick, written and directed by Kelly Reichardt, features female actresses Kristen Stewart, Michelle Williams and Laura Dern. It has earned mixed reviews among critics, with the Observer calling it a “thumping bore” and Variety complimenting the director’s “customary calico-textured beauty.”

Yet both critics agree that the film features amazing performances from an all-star cast. Set in a small town of Montana, the three characters face challenges of womanhood in disconnected storylines. Though the film is paced gradually and focuses on the less exciting moments of everyday life, it has been compared to “a slow-burning folk song you could sit with for hours.” These inspirational ladies depict real women and their diverse journeys stripped of Hollywood’s usual glitz and glamour.

Watch the IFC trailer above and catch the flick in theaters starting October 14.
