"I'm singin' in the rain. Just singin' in the rain.'
On December 28th, 2016 when Debbie Reynolds passed the world was left in shock.
Debbie was known for her iconic roles in “Singin’ in the Rain” as Kathy Selden and “Halloweentown” as Grandma Aggie. Grandma Aggie was the grandma we all wanted. Above all, who doesn’t want a grandma that encourages our moms to let us use magic?
In addition, Debbie left behind a legacy that she could be proud. A legacy that will be remembered for generations to come.
Debbie was born in April of 1932 in El Paso, Texas. She had two older brothers. When she was 7 years old her family moved from El Paso to Burbank, California.
While attending Burbank High School, she ended up winning the Miss Burbank Beauty Contest at 16 years old. After this, she quickly landed a contract with Warner Bros.
Debbie was not the name she was given at birth. ARE YOU SHOCKED?! It turns out she was born Mary Frances Reynolds.
The nickname was given by Jack L. Warner. Moreover, Jack was an American film executive and the president of Warner Bros. Studios.
When Debbie was in the Miss Burbank Beauty Contest there were scouting agents from Warner Bros. and MGM. Because both agencies wanted her, they flipped a coin and the winner got to sign Debbie.
Later, Warner Bros. ended up winning, but because they stopped doing musicals Debbie went with MGM. MGM was so impressed with her performance in “Two Weeks of Love” that they offered her the role in “Singin’ in the Rain.” In 1964 she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress.
Debbie was a mother-of-two, a girl and a boy. Her daughter Carrie Fisher was also an actress. She played the role of Princess Leia in the “Star Wars” movies.
And they appeared together in “Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds.” Her daughter Carrie presented her with the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award.
Carrie passed away a day before her mom. Her son Todd is an American director, producer and actor. He produced the documentary his mom and sister starred in.
Debbie did so much in her lifetime. She was kind, and in return life was kind to her. She is an actress that will be remembered as one of Hollywood’s greatest. It was a sad day when the world lost Debbie Reynolds.
Debbie is someone who will greatly be missed.
