President-elect Donald Trump has appointed another pro-life supporter to a key position with his selection of Mike Pompeo as CIA director.
A fierce critic of both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, the Kansas congressman has voted in the past to defund Planned Parenthood and repeal Obamacare. The conservative firebrand has also sought to defund clinics such as Planned Parenthood, which also provide services such as pap tests, breast exams, sex education programs and STD treatments.
“I can think of no better way to start off 2016 than by passing legislation to overturn the president’s broken, job-killing health care law and to stop taxpayer funding for organizations and clinics, like Planned Parenthood, that perform abortions,” Pompeo had said. “Kansans do not want their health care dictated by Washington bureaucrats, and they do not want their tax dollars going to abortion providers.”
Other pro-life advocates on Trump’s team include VP Mike Pence, who Hillary Clinton called “extreme” after he was added to the Trump ticket.
“Pence has also personally led the fight to defund Planned Parenthood while serving in the House and fought to pass Indiana’s 2016 anti-abortion law, with some of the most outrageous restrictions in the country that threatened women’s privacy and limited their choice,” Clinton said, reported the Washington Post.
In addition, “chief strategist” Steve Bannon, as former executive chairman of right-wing news source Breitbart, has attacked women’s rights in the past with comments such as, “Birth control makes women unattractive and crazy” and “Would you rather your child had feminism or cancer?”
Other Trump picks include former Senator and new Attorney-General Jeff Sessions, who opposes pro-choice and same-sex marriage, according to ABC News.
