Emily Ratajkowski refuses to stand idly by as any woman gets slut-shamed. Even if that woman happens to be Melania Trump.
The actress and model, who famously supported Bernie Sanders in the democratic primary this past election, took to Twitter to call out a New York Times reporter who had reportedly called Melania “a hooker.”
“Whatever your politics it’s crucial to call this out for what it is: slut shaming. I don’t care about her nudes or sexual history and no one should,” Ratajkowski wrote. She went on to add that “gender specific attacks are disgusting sexist bulls—t.”
Melania may be married to a man who admitted to what is, let’s be real, sexual assault. And sure, she may have brushed it off as “locker room talk.” But Ratajkowski still has a point. Neither Melania’s husband nor her problematic political views should open her up to judgment of her personal life.
There’s no “fair play” since she’s a public figure. No woman deserves to be slut-shamed, no matter what their standing or political beliefs. And that goes tenfold when that judgement is coming from a bunch of unfounded rumors.
The reporter’s comment comes just after Melania refiled a $150 million libel suit against MailOnline.com, the website for British tabloid Daily Mail.
The website earned Melania’s ire after reporting on allegations that she once worked for Milan and New York modeling agencies that also operated as escort agencies.

The story was first published in August 2016, though a retraction was later issued the following month.
This past Monday Melania refiled against Mail Media Inc., with her lawsuit claiming that the escort service story had damaged her chances of profiting from her high profile.
Defamation suit aside, MailOnline.com – who failed to substantiate such claims – has since apologized for the piece, so why are people still using it to slut-shame Melania?
Well, unfortunately the most likely answer is, because it’s easy. It happens all the time. Women are not allowed to embrace their sexuality at all without getting shamed. Look at what happened when Kim Kardashian posted a nude photo on Instagram.
And Ratajkowski had Kardashian’s back during that as well. She also took a moment during her October 2016 cover story for Glamour to tackle such sexism.
She lamented how Mick Jagger can wear his shirt open and gyrate onstage at 73 and it’s okay, but when Madonna wears a sheer dress she’s called “a hot mess” or “desperate.”
“But isn’t she just making one of her signature political statements about female sexuality (and, incidentally, about our ageist, sexist culture too)? In any case, they are both performers who undoubtedly like attention. So why does Madonna get flak for it while Jagger is celebrated?” Ratajkowski said.
So, Emily, from every woman who is sick of being judged for taking ownership of her own body and sexuality – you go, girl!
