“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” has surpassed expectations at the box office this weekend. Perhaps the success derives from all the dedicated bookworms trekking to the theater to see their favorite fantasy story come alive with an impressive cast, which includes Eva Green.

Director Tim Burton led the way with the fantasy flick, adapted from the best-selling book of the same name. With futile success since Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” back in 2010, his new film’s positive reception may be seen as a peculiar surprise.

Although the film does have some cut-throat entertainment critics, the movie is holding its own at multiplexes. According to Forbes, Burton’s flick is currently ahead of Mark Wahlberg’s “Deepwater Horizon,” perhaps because “Horizon” must compete with adult-oriented flicks such as “The Magnificent Seven” and “Sully.”

Aside from the support of die-hard book fans, the picture’s success may also be drawn from its all-star cast, especially French female actress Eva Green. Green plays the character Miss Peregrine, a headmistress who looks after the peculiar children. In the film’s trailer, Miss Peregrine exhibits style, strength, charm and elegance.
