ENTITY shares information about sustainable design

In recent years, society is becoming more aware of the impact we leave on our environment. It’s important to consider where you’re shopping and how those products are made. Certain brands are more eco-friendly and sustainable than others, and investing in companies that make it a priority is a step in the right direction.

Here are 5 brands that produce sustainably designed products:

Eileen Fisher is a women’s clothing brand that takes pride in their sustainable practices. Their vision for 2020 is an, “Industry where human rights and sustainability are not the effects of a particular initiative but the cause of a business well run.”

They aim to design their clothing with the most sustainable fibers, eliminate toxins from their dyes, leave less fabric and water waste, improve the livelihoods of their workers, go deeper into mapping their global supply chain, and to reuse old garments to make new ones.

Additionally, they have clothing for plus-sized individuals as well as petite. Eileen Fisher demonstrates that sustainable fashion is not just for certain body types.

When considering eco-friendly beauty brands, Juice Beauty is a top contender. Founded by Karen Behnke in 2005, this cosmetic brand provides a wide range of vegan, high-performing skincare and makeup products that are all organically formulated with certified organic ingredients that are rich with antioxidants. Their motto is, “Farm to Beauty” which means that they literally are harvesting materials from a farm and vineyard that they own in California.

Some of their sustainable practices include utilizing solar and wind power, sourcing locally, and partnering with The Breast Cancer Prevention Partners & EWG/Environmental Working Group. The brand is also cruelty-free, meaning that they never test on animals.

Not only can you find sustainable design in fashion, but in interior design as well. Medley is taking sustainable interior design to a whole new level by offering custom, eco-friendly furniture that is tailored to you and your space.

All of their products are free of harsh chemicals and fire retardants, handcrafted in California and include a 100 day trial with free returns. They also provide free design assistance and samples to help you personalize your furniture with quality, eco-materials.

4. Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day

Cleaning products are often made with harsh chemicals that can be toxic. Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day is a garden-inspired house-hold cleaning brand that is looking to change that. Using almost exclusively plant-based ingredients, they have challenged the idea that only harsh chemicals can achieve a good, quality clean.

They have also started a movement called “The Compassion Project.” Their mission is to spread kindness across the country by sending students and teachers their own Growing Compassion Gardening Kit.

5. Rothy’s

The Rothy’s brand began with the idea to, “Turn recycled, single-use plastics into something both beautiful and useful.” They decided to take plastic bottles that were headed for the landfills and repurpose them into footwear. This revolutionary footwear brand has taken over 30 million plastic bottles to design shoes that are durable, comfortable, and timeless.

More and more people are looking to change to a more sustainable lifestyle. It’s about more than just switching to cruelty-free makeup brands and recycling more. Hopefully, more companies follow the example that these eco-friendly companies are setting.
