Her character, Ilana Wexler, always brings the life of the party with her wherever she goes. She’s a ball of sunshine and openness, but also has a way of remaining a mystery. Just ask about her. Everyone will tell you she had Brooklyn wired from the back streets.
However, how similar is Ilana Glazer to Ilana Wexler? Apparently pretty similar.
Like her best friend on the show and in real life, Abbi, Ilana Glazer caricatured Ilana Wexler to be like her real-life counterpart. Find out some facts we noticed are similar to her character, some that are different and some that shocked us just as much and they’ll shock you.
Taken right out of the horse’s mouth, *drumroll begins* Ilana Glazer smokes weed!
Okay, this definitely isn’t new news. However, many people were wondering if the two actually smoke weed in their real lives after they released that Huffington Post interview explaining that the weed on set isn’t weed at all. It’s some other “harsh” herb.
However, marijuana smokers around the world can now breathe knowing that they are still be represented on the little screen. Lana is, in fact, a stoner. In the “Broad City” SXSW panel in 2016, moderated by Marie Claire Editor-In-Chief Anne Fulenwider, Ilana states, “ I smoke every day, smoke or bake.”
And she doesn’t even pretend to hide it either. She’s proud of her pothead ways and we’re proud that she’s proud to be herself, no matter what the negative social opinions people have shared with her about her smoking habits.
Yes. The woman we just certified as a pothead, used to be in those “pray away the addiction” associations. Well, it may not have been overt praying circles, asking God to save them from the sins of weed. However, Ilana did say in her NPR interview that “it was vaguely Christian, or it felt like it.”
She explained that her brother, Eliot Glazer, used to be a part of the group when he was in high school and they bonded over the purity of it. When pressed by Abbi, who was also a part of the interview, what made her start smoking pot, Ilana confessed it was a stoner boyfriend. She tried the stoner life, loved it and decided to keep on living it.
It seems both Abbi and Lana went to school for completely different things than what they became. Ilana’s graduated from New York University around the time she met Abbi at an improv class.
Ilana Glazer seems in tune with other people’s feelings and always tends to make them happy by simply being around her. This could be an element Ilana included to encompass this part of her life as a part of her character. Ilana Wexler might not have graduated from NYU with a fancy degree in Psych, but her personality has a way of healing fractured minds.
Although we’re almost sure Ilana’s keeping her maiden name somewhere in her documents, she’s a married woman now. Congratulations are in order. According to E Online, she secretly got married to her long-time lover, David Rooklin.
An aspect of Ilana Glazer that we also see in her character is the inclination to keep deep and personal things about her life private. Word of Ilana Glazer’s wedding didn’t spread until after she posted the photo (above) on her Instagram.
Isn’t it romantic when true love prospers? We’re glad she got to have an intimate wedding with only her friends and family, instead of dozens of paparazzi littering her doorsteps.

We all know (or should know by now) about Abbi and Ilana’s webisodes on Youtube called “Hack Into Broad City.” We also know or should know some of Ilana’s other projects on movies and TV shows, such as “Rough Night” (2017), “The Night Before” (2015), “BoJack Horseman” (2015-2016) and the miniseries called the “Time Travelling Bong” (2016).
However, did you all know that Ilana Glazer has her own web series called “Chronic Gamer Girl”? Well, now you do. And if you like video games, smoking weed and watching people chat about life and games, then you’ll love these webisodes. Her video posts have been few and far in between, since her schedule has picked up within the last couple of years, but it’s still worth the watch.
