Entity shares Kaley Cuoco and her thoughts on feminism.

The most recent big bang? The thoughts of Kaley Cuoco – female actress on the hit show “The Big Bang Theory” – on feminism and how it affects her own life.

In an interview with Redbook Magazine, Cuoco said that she does not consider herself a feminist because she has never faced inequality. She said she was never “that feminist girl demanding equality…” She enjoyed cooking for and serving her ex-husband five times a week, and she loves feeling “like a housewife.” She also mentioned how her mother was a housewife and how it probably “kind of rubbed off” on her.

Trigger the online implosion. The backlash from the media prompted Cuoco to apologize on Instagram for her comments. In the post, she said that she is “completely blessed and grateful that strong women have paved the way” for her to be successful in the entertainment world, and that her comments were taken out of context.

What is everyone else saying? Those arguing against Cuoco accuse her of being anti-feminist and that she is hurting the feminist movement by conforming to the housewife stereotype. But, like the original big bang, the story isn’t that clear-cut. Others defending Cuoco argue that feminism not only fights for equality but also a woman’s right to choose. In their minds, Cuoco can choose to be a housewife if that is what she enjoys, and this choice doesn’t automatically make her anti-feminist.

Asking celebrities about their feminist status has become just as common in interviews as, “Is there anyone special in your life?” But when asked about feminism, every answer comes with its own serving of backlash. Are quotes like Cuoco’s helping or hurting gender equality? Which side of commentators – the anti-feminist accusers or the free-choice promoters – is right? Should Cuoco even have apologized in the first place?
