Happy Birthday, John Lennon! October 9, 2016 would have been the entertainment icon’s 76th birthday, according to InStyle.

British legend John Lennon was a member of the 1960s rock band The Beatles, as well as a dedicated social activist and husband to artist Yoko Ono. Lennon was a worldwide sensation, known for his original songs, performances and interviews. (Check out Liverpool Echo’s collection of Lennon quotes for some of his famous musings, including “As usual, there is a great woman behind every idiot.”)

Lennon’s inspirational life abruptly ended when he was murdered in 1980. Despite this, Lennon’s spirit was not absent from this year’s Desert Trip, Indio’s newest festival hosting pre-Coachella classics. On October 7, the Rolling Stones covered “Come Together,” the Beatles’ 1969 hit. The following night, former Beatles’ bandmate Paul McCartney invited Neil Young to the stage to play two more Beatles’ songs: “A Day in the Life” and “Why Don’t We Do It in the Road?”

If you missed the Desert Trip or can’t fly to Prague to visit the John Lennon Wall, you can honor the rock legend’s life by watching Rolling Stone‘s interview footage of Lennon in the video above.
