“Orange is the New Black” star Laverne Cox followed up her featured act in Fox TV’s “Rocky Horror Picture Show” with an equally entertaining performance.
Laverne, who plays Sophia Burset in the popular Netflix show, took to the stage to belt out Nicki Minaj’s “Roman’s Revenge” on Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle. The celeb went head to head with Samira Wiley, fellow co-star of OITNB, who picked Naughty by Nature’s “O.P.P” for her segment.
Her lip sync performance, featuring hair flips and leg kicks, sent the audience into a frenzy. Laverne embodied female empowerment with her tribute to feminist Nikki Minaj as well as her high-energy performance – showing off her fabulous body and impressive muscles, Rosie the Riveter style.
While Fox’s recent rendition of classic hit “Rocky Horror Picture Show” received negative ratings, ENTITY thinks Cox’s appearance as Dr. Frank-N-Furter was far from a flop. Her musical numbers, including “Sweet Transvestite,” scream of glamour and power.
The female actress seems to be using her time off the Netflix television hit to enjoy belting out some seriously powerful tunes alongside fellow celebs Victoria Justice, Adam Lambert and Christina Milian. Maybe we’ll see an album from her in the near future? (ENTITY really wants to add this lady to our #girlpower playlist …)
In addition to acting and singing, the transgender woman is also an active advocate for LGBTQ rights. In her interview with TIME, Laverne opened up about her childhood bullying, gave her response on trans-friendly laws and offered her support for the trans community.
