Mariah Carey may have cooed “We Belong Together” to her fiancé James Packer, but is there trouble in paradise for these lovebirds?
Female actress and singer Carey had been dating Australian entrepreneur and businessman James Packer for over a year. While the couple has not spoken publicly about the break-up rumors, a source revealed to TMZ that the pair called off their engagement today. A representative for Carey later confirmed the allegations of issues within their relationship in a statement.
“Mariah and James had a fight in Greece, and have not seen each other since,” the statement read via E! News. “The fight was not because of any cheating allegations or excessive spending by Mariah. James is one of the most successful businessmen in the world. They are trying to work it out. Right now, they’re not sure if they will stay together. They are discussing it, and plan to release an official statement together about their future.”
The reasoning behind the surprising split? TMZ suspected Carey’s scandalous rendezvous with one of Carey’s Vegas backup dancers or her “excessive spending” could be possible culprits. Another TMZ report suggested Packer did “something really bad” with Carey’s assistant on a trip to Greece. However, these rumors have since been discredited by Carey’s representative, who insists the fight did not stem from sexual or financial problems.
Prior to the news, the lovers were vocal about their passion for each other and their relationship in interviews. In the video above, Mariah Carey spilled the romantic details about her budding romance on the “Steve Harvey Show.” Her glamorous necklace – a gift from her new beau – sparked the discussion of how these two crossed paths.
“We first met in Aspen, ironically, a couple years ago,” Carey said. “We were at the Hercules premiere and we started talking and laughing and people were getting mad at us and stuff like that … so we hit it off.”
In addition, Mariah gushed about how wonderful Packer is and how lucky she is to be with him. Her adorable laugh and giddy energy about her relationship makes it hard for ENTITY to accept the rumors.
