ENTITY reports on Megyn Kelly opening up about Trump's bullying on "The View."Megyn Kelly

Megyn Kelly defended herself on “The View” for her infamous “softball” interview with President Elect Donald Trump this past May. Co-host Joy Behar couldn’t help but to call her out for it, exclaiming, “I was a little disappointed in you.”

Kelly held her ground, though, explaining that it was “an offramp from a year of severe threats.” The interview had occurred after the TV personality met with Trump at his Trump Tower, per her request.

“I was looking to get him to stand down. No one was going to stand him down but me,” Kelly added, discussing the backlash she received for months after asking the (at the time) presidential candidate a question about his treatment of women.

Kelly had said at the debate, “You’ve called women you don’t like fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals.” Trump was furious with the topic, later calling it “unfair” and unleashing hate against the star on social media.

He famously told CNN, “There was blood coming out of here eyes. There was blood coming out of her wherever.”

Kelly admitted on “The View” that she was shocked by the response, saying, “It was incredible how much anger there was over one debate question,” particularly since, she added, it was obviously going to be asked at some point.

The author, who had been on the show to promote new book “Settle for More,” also revealed that Trump had threatened her before the debate. He had previously been upset over a segment she did on her show “The Kelly File” regarding his divorce from Ivana Trump.

She shared that he had asked her to call him, otherwise he refused to follow through on a planned appearance on her show. During the call, Kelly revealed that Trump had threatened, “I almost unleashed my beautiful Twitter account on you, and I still may.” And of course, he later did.

Immediately after the debates Trump had posted, “Wow, @megynkelly really bombed tonight. People are going wild on twitter! Funny to watch.”

Kelly continued to work despite the barrage of hate she received from Trump and his supporters. She explained that when even her daughter – five-year-old Yardley – became afraid, she made it her goal to put an end to the feuding.

She revealed on “The View” that she and Trump are now “in a better place,” and even encouraged everyone to give the President-elect a chance. “I do feel like we owe it to him and our country to stand behind him and root for him,” she said.
