After keeping fans guessing about the status of her relationship with Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus finally addressed the engagement ring she’s been wearing for months. “It’s very weird because this is real jewelry. Most of my jewelry is made out of gummy bears and cotton candy and they don’t look that good together,” she told Ellen DeGeneres. “So sometimes I replace it with an actual unicorn or a Looney Toon.”

And although she admits that her ring “isn’t really [her] aesthetic,” she said she wears it because Hemsworth loves her.

The couple initially split in 2013, shortly after Cyrus’ 2013 VMA performance with Robin Thicke. Reflecting on the breakup, Hemsworth told Today in June, “At the time we were going in different directions and it’s just what needed to happen.”

Since then, Cyrus has been busy with her furthering her career and reshaping her public persona. Although her outfits are still as wild and vivacious as they were three years ago, the singer has shifted from the Hannah Montana and 2013 VMA images.

She single-handedly founded the Happy Hippie Foundation to rally young men and women to fight injustice facing homeless youth. She has also come out as pansexual and has openly fought for LGBTQ marriage rights. Now, she is a coach on NBC’s “The Voice,” where she exhibits her professionalism, expertise and maturity.

Even if there is no official ‘save the date,’ Miley Cyrus told DeGeneres, “I think young people have a different idea of partnering and not feeling that this necessarily means this is going to have a legal document signed and dated. It’s really [just about] sharing a life with someone, not a legal paper.”

The couple has been relatively private about the relationship, but we can’t stop, won’t stop cheering for them!
