“You’re never going to get your name on this page. You good with that?”

New York, media and the 1960s – although a cultural revolution of second-wave feminism swept through the nation during that time, one place refused to adapt: newsrooms. Inspired by real events, Amazon’s new original, “Good Girls Revolt,” tackles sexism in the media.

In this girl power series, Grace Gummer, Hollywood icon Meryl Streep’s daughter, plays the revolutionary and outspoken protagonist, Nora. “It’s like you guys are fighting over the lower bunk bed in jail,” Nora says to her female colleagues, “to make the guys look better.”

“Good Girls Revolt” follows a group of young female researchers at News of the Week magazine in 1969. These women, with the help of Nora and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (played by Joy Bryant) fight for more power in the newsroom. Inspired by Lynn Povich’s book of the same name, the new show stars also stars Genevieve Angelson, Anna Camp and Erin Darke.

Even though it’s nearly 50 years later, many of the main themes in this show still ring true: women are still struggling in the workplace, there is a lack of representation in leadership and there is still much to be done with regards to gender inequality.
