Looks like congratulations are in order for Nicole Johnson and Michael Phelps!
Despite telling everyone that he “really can’t wait to get married” in August, it turns out that the couple tied the knot in a secret ceremony on June 13, before the Rio Olympics. The wedding was officiated by Phelps’ agent and close friend, Peter Carlisle, who often posts pictures of the family.
On the actual wedding night, Johnson posted a photo on Instagram captioned: “Such a memorable night with my lil fambam.”
When asked about the couple’s plans for the wedding, Johnson told Access Hollywood, “It’ll be small and intimate. [Then] we’re throwing a massive bash for everyone in the States.”
Johnson, a former Miss California, dated the Olympic legend on and off for eight years before celebrating their engagement February 2015. “Michael and I both know that had we tried to have a child and get married in the previous time we were together, it probably would not have ended pretty,” she told People. “We both had a lot of growing up to do.”
Now that Phelps has retired from swimming, the couple is focused on being together as a family. “Now we get to have fun,” Nicole said (via Cosmopolitan). “We get to enjoy parts of life that everybody gets to on a daily basis that we had to step away from so Michael could go and do what he needed to do.”
