Bring back the Titans!
The “Remember the Titans” cast stole our hearts by demonstrating how teamwork can change hearts and minds. The film tells a true story that takes place at T.C. Williams High School in Virginia. The school is in the midst of integration and African American coach Henry Boone plays a huge part in healing racial tensions.
“Remember the Titans” was released in 2000 and has gone down as a classic for many. The film’s $30 million budget seems meager in comparison to its gross revenue of $136.7 million. But the movie’s worldwide popularity owes huge thanks to its superstar cast.
What have these actors been up to in the 17 years since this movie came out? ENTITY is here to give you the scoop.
Denzel Washington has starred in 19 different motion pictures since “Remember the Titans.” In 2016, Denzel Washington starred in two highly acclaimed films. He played the leading role of Chisholm in “The Magnificent 7.” Washington also won an Oscar for playing a struggling father in the 1950s in the film “Fences.”
Now, he plays the lead role in the film “Roman Israel, Esq.” which comes out on Nov. 3, 2017. In the film, he is a dedicated defense attorney who is in the midst of various chaotic events. Next, he is set to star in “The Equalizer 2” in 2018.
Gosling has starred in 22 other films after “Remember the Titans.” Of course, his most notable roles were in “The Notebook” (2004) and “Drive” (2011). Then in 2016, he played Sebastian in “La La Land,” which won six Oscars. In fact, he received a nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role.
Now, Ryan Gosling plays LAPD Officer K in “Blade Runner 2049,” which won the ICP Award for the Most Anticipated Film of 2017. Gosling will also be playing world famous astronaut Neil Armstrong in the film “First Man.” This hits the theaters in 2018.
Hayden Panettiere has been in various films since “Remember the Titans,” including “I Love You, Beth Cooper” (2009). However, she is best known for her roles on television. She played Claire Bennet in the TV series “Heroes,” which aired from 2006 to 2010. Presently, she plays country music legend Juliette Barnes in the ongoing series, “Nashville.”
Since the filming of “Remember the Titans,” Ryan Hurst has primarily starred in TV shows. He played Harry Winston (aka Opie) in the “Sons of Anarchy” series from 2008 to 2012. Hurst now stars in the shows “Bates Motel” and “The Outsiders.”
Besides “Remember the Titans,” Wood Harris is best known for his role as Avon Barksdale in the TV series “The Wire” from 2002 to 2008. More recently, he plays Barry Fouray in the series “The Breaks,” which is about a group of friends trying to make it in the hip-hop industry. He is set to play Michael in the film “9/11,” which will hit theaters on Sept. 8, 2017.
Will Patton played Captain Weaver in the TV series “Falling Skies” from 2011 to 2015. He also starred in “The Good Wife” in 2016. Presently, he plays Sheriff Daniel Platt in the new series “Shots Fired,” which exposed the racially-charged elements of the judicial system in a small Southern town. Patton plays the part of Wisdom in the 2017 film “An Actor Prepares.”
Ethan Suplee currently plays D in the thriller TV series “Chance.” Also, in 2013 he played Toby Welch in the film “The Wolf of Wallstreet.” This film was later nominated for five Oscars.
Kate Bosworth’s most memorable role was as Lois Lane in the film “Superman Returns” in 2006. Also, she played Anna-Howland Jones in the 2014 film “Still Alice” alongside Julianne Moore. Most recently, she was leading lady Nina West in the 2017 film “The Domestics,” a survival love story of a husband and wife trying to return home in a post-apocalyptic land.
Burgess Jenkins is best known for playing Bobby on the show “One Tree Hill” from 2008 to 2009. He recently starred in the ongoing soap opera “The Young and the Restless” as Billy Abbott from 2014 to 2016. Also, he was Zach in the film “The Reason,” which is based on the book by William Sirls.
Kip Pardue has been in various TV shows and films since “Remember the Titans.” Most notably, he starred in the TV series “Madmen” in 2013 and “Ray Donovan” in 2014. Now, Pardue will be starring in the anticipated Marvel series “The Runaways” in 2018.
The T.C. Williams High School team has moved beyond football and is taking the entertainment industry by storm. Among them are several Oscar nominees and winners, but their list of achievements don’t stop there.
The beloved “Remember the Titans” cast is just as impressive as they once were. All of them are currently starring in TV series or films and several of them are cast in upcoming roles, as well. For many of these actors, “Remember the Titans” was only the beginning of their careers.
