ENTITY reports on Shailene Woodley

Most people who are familiar with the 25-year-old actress Shailene Woodley, probably know her as the young woman who plays Hazel in “The Fault in Our Stars.”

Sadly, not many people know Shailene as the philanthropist and activist that she is. She’s much more down-to-earth than the typical Hollywood actress, caring about the environment and the impact the government has on mother nature.

Here are a few things you may not have known about Shailene Woodley after watching her on screen.

1 She is an avid Environmental Activist.

Woodley camped outside in NYC to demand the city divest from the use of dirty fuels. She also participated in a march the very next day in support of clean energy.

Woodley is also an active participant in the Dakota Access Pipeline protests. #NoDAPL are grassroots movements in response to the Energy Transfer Partner’s Dakota Access Pipeline.

Most of the protesters are Native American activists and environmentalists as the production of the pipeline would violate their sacred land and threaten surrounding drinking water.

NoDAPL is a campaign to protect our water by opposing the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline.

On February 7, Trump authorized the construction of the pipeline and ended the environmental impact assessment.

2 She does not consider herself a feminist.

Shailene Woodley has stated that she does not consider herself a feminist. Woodley told TIME that she was against the term “feminist” because she doesn’t believe that men should have their power taken away. “I love men, and I think the idea of ‘raise women to power, take the men away from the power’ is never going to work out because you need balance… My biggest thing is really sisterhood more than feminism.”

Woodley questions how women can expect men to respect them when they can’t seem to respect each other. She believes that focusing on supporting each other instead of sabotaging and hating each other will make a greater impact.

Overall, she doesn’t believe in being defined by a label and wants everyone to embrace one another regardless of what they believe.

3 She may not be a feminist, but she is making a change.

Shailene and her mother co-founded the non-profit organization, All it Takes. This youth leadership program focuses on teaching kids to practice empathy and compassion in hopes of encouraging positive changes for themselves and for the people around them.

The organization hosts an annual leadership camp for middle school students in California to provide support and spread kindness.

Shailene told The Hollywood Reporter that the focus of All It Takes exemplifies her role as Tris, a strong female leader in the film, “Divergent.”

4 She has been in trouble with the law.

In 2016, Woodley got arrested for a good cause after being charged with criminal trespassing and engaging in a riot involving the Dakota pipeline protest. She was later sentenced to a year of probation.

5 She is in support of sustaining the Native American culture.

Woodley stated that people wear the Native American heritage – such as headdresses, feathers, Moccasins and Native American-inspired jewelry – as decoration and in fashion trends but fail to honor their culture.

Shailene Woodley was honored at the 20th Anniversary Global Green Environmental Awards and received the Entertainment Industry Environmental Leadership Award for her contribution to the All it Takes organization.

The CEO of Environmental Media Association Awards expressed her satisfaction in Woodley’s commitment to make a difference, and they honored her for her dedicated involvement in social and environmental issues.

Shailene is clearly a #womenthatdoes. Keep it up, Shailene!
