Singapore movie poster compares military to childbirth, Entity reports.

The Singapore government sparked outrage online with an ad for a new movie, Beijing, Mumbai, Tampines (BMT).

The film follows the shared experiences of Singaporean men in the National Service. Basic Military Training is the first three months of a two-year military draft all (male) citizens in Singapore have to undergo after turning 18.

“Women go through labor, but men go through this. Who has it worse?” reads the controversial Instagram post by the Singapore government promoting the film.

Singapore movie poster compares military to childbirth.

I’m sorry, what? There are so many things wrong with this post it’s hard to even begin. In boiling down the male and female experience, I’m not sure that Basic Military Training versus childbirth would be the sole experiences up for debate, but I’m also not from Singapore so sure, let’s go with that.

Keeping that in mind, why is it even about who has it worse? It seems really kind of ridiculous to even compare the two, but especially dumb to not acknowledge the impressive feat that is growing an entire human being in your person and then delivering them while remaining intact yourself. But I digress.

Let’s talk about what’s more important. I mean, if men stopped going to war, one could argue more people would be alive. And yet, if women stopped giving birth, well, humanity would cease to exist. Maybe put that on a poster.
