Kate McKinnon and Alec Baldwin slayed SNL’s entertaining season premiere with style, allowing the world to laugh at a not-so-funny political election.
Last Monday’s presidential debate featuring nominees Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump sent the Internet into a frenzy. From Trump’s interrupting sniffles to Clinton’s shoulder shimmies, Democrats and Republicans alike seemed equally shocked by the on-screen reality of our current political culture.
SNL cast member McKinnon played Hillary Clinton alongside frequent guest Baldwin, who played Donald Trump. New York Times points out that both characters poked fun at the real-life candidates, giving surprising balance to an arguably liberal series. Some highlights include the female actress somersaulting onto the stage Willy Wonka style and the male comedic celeb blaming his broken microphone on the Obama administration.
