The festive music season officially kicks off with the 2016 CMA Country Christmas special on ABC (Nov. 28, 8 p.m.) hosted by singer-songwriter Jennifer Nettles and featuring a ho-ho-host of big names from Rascal Flatts to Idina Menzel performing holiday tunes.
Meanwhile many acts have released Christmas albums. Here at ENTITY, we have put together our own list (checking it twice) of these recent musical treats that are sure to become festive classics.
Have yourself a pitch-perfect Christmas with this 2016 album that reinvents classic carols like “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” into modern pop masterpieces. Grammy Award-winning, country music icon Loretta Lynn has released “White Christmas Blue” — her first Christmas album in over 50 years. With original songs like “To Heck with Ole Santa Claus” alongside Christmas staples like “Jingle Bells” and “Winter Wonderland,” this Christmas album delivers a hearty serving of Americana that goes perfectly with a heaping slice of holiday pie.

The clean and rich vocal style of country singer Kacey Musgraves make her new Christmas album “A Very Kacey Christmas” ideal for holiday parties. While Kacey often sings about modern themes, her sound retains something of the past, giving her music a mid-century country feel. Kacey covers jovial Christmas solos like “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” and “Feliz Navidad” but collaborates with others to make her collection all the more robust. A duet entitled “A Willie Nice Christmas” features the legendary Willie Nelson and should guarantee everyone who hears it a smile this holiday season.
