“Suits” actress Jessica Pearson lives by the”State Property” motto: you either get down or you lay down.

Her boss attitude and refusal to let anyone threaten or marginalize her are just three of the reasons Jessica maintained the power of her firm … until she decided to let it go.

Her absence from the show broke many hearts. In many ways, she was a woman who went for what she wanted and never settled for less. She acted as an inspiration to many women.

Don’t believe us? Try it yourself.

Just write down Jessica Pearson quotes on your mirror so you wake up to one of her amazing, confidence boosters every morning.

Okay, wait. Why did Gina Torres leaves “Suits” in the first place?

Torres explained in her interview with The New York Times that her exit was beautifully executed to fit the narrative and poetically mirror her real life decision to leave “Suits.”

Gina expanded her thoughts by saying, “But what was so beautiful and poetic about how we’ve decided to end it is she’s going to find her bliss. After all this time, she is not breaking with anything we’ve come to expect from Jessica Pearson. Anybody might say — ‘But she has everything!’ Well, maybe she doesn’t, and she needs to figure out what’s missing and what’s going to make her happy.”

Jessica’s story reflects Gina’s story in that Gina also needed to find another happiness, one outside of work. As Deadline explains in their article, Torres left the series because she wanted to be closer to her family in Los Angeles.

Besides, it’s not like her bank account couldn’t take the temporary leave from acting until she found a new position. The Gina Torres net worth lands at $1 million. This doesn’t take into account Gina Torres’s husband, Laurence Fishburn’s net worth, which is at a whopping $20 million.

Gina wouldn’t need to dip into her savings, anyways. Many recognize her name in the television world. She acted in well-known television shows like “Alias,” “24” and “Angel.” And as a reflection of her credentials, she quickly landed a one-year deal with Shonda Rhimes’ “The Catch.”

Now she can have her cake and eat it too.

The working life of a television star is vigorous and extends about nine months of the year. That leaves three months for Gina to spend time with her family. There’s no doubt Gina loved the “Suits” series, but she has the same right Jessica had to find her happiness in her personal life.

Despite this, Jessica still has opportunities to return.

It’s actually been confirmed by Deadline that a spin-off idea Torres brought to UCP, which is run by Jeff Wachtel, was picked up in late February/early March. It is now in the beginning stages of production.

The spin-off series will involve Jessica’s life in Chicago. Deadline hinted that the story Gina pitched has a unique twist, but they haven’t parsed out the details yet.

Regardless, what does this new development say for Jessica’s return to “Suits?” Well, in his Deadline interview, “Suits” writer Aaron Korsh responded with, “I would never count her out is what I would say. We don’t have specific plans but she’s obviously always a near and dear character of the show. And if opportunities arise, we would, of course, love to bring her back.”

And as Gina added to her New York Times interview, “You know these boys are going to screw it up at some point.'” She’s more than right on that front. Harvey and Louis could hardly work together with Jessica as a mediator and running the managerial aspects of the firm. Now that both have more responsibility on their shoulders, who knows how long they’ll last before something blows up in their faces.

Why Korsh’s Initial Pitch for Jessica’s Exit Would’ve Ruined Everything

At first, Korsh told Deadline that he wanted Jessica to die in some huge dramatic sequence at the end of season six. Thankfully, the network, USA, shot that idea down (no pun intended).

On a narrative level, it wouldn’t work. The death would be a random element in this show that’s never happened to any of the other characters. “Suits” is a dramedy, not an early 2000s soap opera. Additionally, how would Jessica’s death have helped the story progress?

There already seemed to be too much happening in the final episode. Inserting the death of a huge force like Jessica would’ve seemed contrived. Not only that, but the death of a lead actress would deserve more screen-time than a simple exit – something they didn’t have.

Overall, Jessica Pearson is a boss with way more stories to tell. We’re glad Korsh chose to have her character exit for the same reason Gina needed a break.

The ending they chose suits Jessica and the story’s organic progression the best. It gives us the hope to see Jessica in season seven and it also paved a way for the chance to see the spin-off they’re currently cooking up.
