Instagram: the next best mood board tool.
From cutting out snippets of your favorite magazine and turning it into a collage, to utilizing virtual spaces like tumblr and Pintrest to do just that: mood boards have been a staple in the creative world for turning a vision into a reality.
Instagram gives a perfect platform to curate the perfect mood board. With the ability to scroll, save photos, and create collections, Instagram is now the holy grail of mood board inspiration.
Here are 7 must-follow Instagram accounts, doubling as mood boards, that will rate as a 10 out of 10 on the aesthetically pleasing scale:
Emily Oberg, owner of the brand, created a “mood board for life,” as stated in the bio of her Instagram account. The account was made to capture the inspiration behind her brand.
A visual representation of a walk through her mind, as she designs new pieces for the brand and other creative direction, Oberg uses it when working on collaborations.
The Sporty & Rich mood board is flooded with vintage ads and old school clothing. You can find dreamy vacation destinations, art pieces and motivational quotes as well.
This account is a self-described “fashion mood board”. The creator of Gelbsy remains anonymous, but with 76.8k followers, the account is all about the hype.
Here you will find a collection of the latest fashion trends, as well as old photos of style icons such as young Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, and Beyonce.
Capturing the most stylish grandparents, the Instagram mood board, “Gramparents,” is flooded with the fliest grandpas and grandmas on the internet. Kyle Kivijärvi is the creator of this unique mood board and has been running the account for three years. He started off capturing photos of older people with good style and posting it to his personal account before he transitioned to this mood board.
“I really appreciate timeless classics in fashion and am not so trend-driven when it comes to my personal style. I guess I am, in a way, inspired by the way they dress as well as how they spend the time they have.” Kyle said in an email statement.
You will find the stylish grandparents partaking in fun activities such as boating, walking through parks and bike riding. Kyle now takes submissions from his followers and will be rolling out “Gramparents” merch soon.
The name says it all. “THAT COOL MOOD BOARD,” is absolutely that cool.
Full of photos intertwined with designer brands like Chanel, Louis Vitton, Gucci, Prada, and many others, the creator of the mood board is anonymous, but at the same time very well known.
THAT COOL MOOD BOARD is designed to be a place that brings together a vision of art, photography, architecture and fashion. The aesthetic screams, “I love a fabulous pair of shoes”. This account is full of beautiful scenery as well as powerful quotes.
With a mixture of fashion, rap/hip-hop culture, 90’s throwbacks and quotes: Glitter Box is your mood board for just about everything.
Flooded with photos of young R&B stars like Lil’ Kim, Destiny’s Child, Will and Jada Smith, and Tupac; this mood board creates an almost nostalgic feel as you scroll through.
You might even come across a few steamy, intimate photos that create a mood themselves. Yet, this brand still incorporates elements of vintage designer brands like Chanel and Louis Vuitton as well as bucket-list vacation destinations. This mood board is absolutely a must-follow.
An enticing feed inspired by celebrity fashion and sassy looks, choochoochica is one of the hottest mood boards on Instagram.
The creator of choochoochica, Nadia, was originally from Ecuador, but is now located in Vancouver, Canada. She spoke with me about her process creating this mood board.
“I made this a few years ago when my old phone would run out of storage, but I wanted to keep my fashion/inspiration pictures. I made this page to post on and then became kind of obsessed with creating a mood board—I kept posting and matching it with my feed and I didn’t really start gaining followers until last year.”
Nadia said that this is one of her outlets for when she is going through life. It lets her express what she is feeling. Choochoochica is a ten out of ten must follow.
“Life of leisure,” is the tell-all bio for Luxe & Body.
The creator of the mood board is a recent graduate from the University of the Arts, London with a degree in Fashion Design. The mood board is a way for the owner to extend beyond the limit. I was able to speak with the brand owner on the ideas behind the mood board.
“As a creative, mood boards are an inseparable part of my life. I’ve always particularly enjoyed the initial process of gathering visuals that evoke certain feelings for a design project. So taking all of that online was a natural stage of personal development.”
Scrolling through the Instagram account, you will see an abundance of interior design photos mixed with different art pieces, as well as vintage-style photos and ads.
“I’ve always wanted to have my own brand. One that reflects my taste level and all of the different areas of art, design, fashion and music that I’m interested in.”
Scrolling through Luxe & Body’s mood board feels like you’re flipping through a magazine filled with images of your dream life—a life of leisure that leaves you feeling aesthetically pleased. With a closing quote from the creator:
