Chamberlain made waves at OU her freshman year when it took her only two bats to hit her first homerun for the Sooners. From there, Chamberlain soared to the top. She was the talk of the town, acquiring big followings on social media. Later, Chamberlain broke the NCAA home run record hitting No. 91 her senior year against North Texas. She first made her way into the Olympics and then into our hearts forever. Vonn is now referred to as one of the most successful women skiers of all time. You go girl!

4 DANICA PATRICK

Let’s not forget about the woman who changed NASCAR and IndyCar forever. Patrick was the first woman to ever win a Sprint Cup pole. She inspired IndyCar driver Simona De Silvestro and Norwegian racing prospect Ayla Agren when she set gender records by leading laps and finishing fourth as a rookie in the 2005 Indy 500.  Further declining to assess the gender terms in her career, this woman in NASCAR is speeding past any sexism still lurking in the sports business. Patrick has made a difference in the racing world and is an inspiration to young girls everywhere.

5 ROMERO SISTERS

For these athletes, it comes in a pair! These two sisters sky rocketed to the top this past year in the world of softball. Sierra Romero, a senior at the University of Michigan, and Sydney Romero, a freshman at the University of Oklahoma, made 2016 the year of sisters. While you would think the competition is at an all-time high for the two, they work to push each other to be the best they can be. Sierra is noted to be one of the best in the game, earning herself 2016 Player of the Year. The sisters are a true inspiration to players everywhere; they demonstrate that success and happiness can be reached in life when you work together (even if they are competition).
