"I will be free."
Venus Williams might have lost the semi finals U.S. Open to Sloane Stephens, but Williams isn’t a sore loser. She didn’t get to No. 5 world ranking in the WTA singles rankings without dealing with a few losses.
As a world renowned tennis player, an interior designer and a clothing line designer, she’s learned a few things about winning.
So, ENTITY compiled a list of the most famous Venus Williams quotes that every strong, independent woman needs in order to have a winning mentality.
“In my mind, I’m always the best. If I walk out on the court and I think the next person is better, I’ve already lost.”
“Losses have propelled me to even bigger places, so I understand the importance of losing. You can never get complacent because a loss is always around the corner. It’s in any game that you’re in – a business game or whatever – you can’t get complacent.”
“You have to let fear go. Another lesson is you just have to believe in yourself; you just have to. There’s no way around it. No matter how things are stacked against you, you just have to every time.”
“When you lose, you’re more motivated. When you win, you fail to see your mistakes and probably no one can tell you anything.”
“Understanding that being nervous, having doubts and lacking confidence are emotions that are human is how you deal with it. It is okay to feel that way… and then understanding that you can work through it.”
“The first time you win, nobody picks you; the last time you win, nobody picks you. You’ve just got to pick yourself.”
“My ambition is to enjoy my life and to do exactly what I want to do. And I’ll do that. I will be free.
“I’ve learned you can always achieve more than you thought you could. There are moments when I’ve walked off the court, and I’m like, ‘I don’t know how I won that match.’ It was actually impossible, but it happened, and then you realize that you can push yourself much further than you ever thought, and you can make the impossible happen.”
“As far as everyone else’s opinion, I mean, if I would have thought that everyone was right, I probably wouldn’t have left Compton, so I don’t get too caught up on what the next person thinks.”
“Of course, I want to be number one. But being happy and healthy is the most important thing.”
11 Never stop moving forward.
“Sometimes when you’re making more errors you want to pull back, but I just need to keep going forward.”
Venus Williams’ career has had a lot of ups and downs, but she’s never been one to give up. Her words of wisdom teach us that we can’t be successful until we believe in ourselves.
