Have you ever turned on the news or scanned the latest updates on a news site and wondered, “Where are the women?” Although the media has put a spotlight on many women recently – ranging from Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election to women like Karena Virginia – women’s issues are often overlooked by mainstream news coverage. Curious about what a women’s news report might sound like? Tina Fey from Saturday Night Live is here to help.

You might remember this video from several years ago when it first went live. However, the issues it covers are more relevant than ever. What are we talking about? Topics like:

  • Public criticism (aka juicy celebrity gossip) about female celebrities like Lindsey Lohan or Kirstie Allie for aging or gaining weight.
  • Questions of whether women – especially feminists – feel drawn to vote for a woman … or if they’ll just “vote how Oprah tells them to.”
  • Scrutiny of Hillary Clinton’s appearance … as one radio host said: Is America ready to watch “their President turn into an old lady in front of them?”
  • Reclaiming terms used to degrade women by saying, “B*tches get stuff done.”

No, this isn’t the most objective, factual or analytical newscast you’ll ever watch. However, it will be the most entertaining – and it shows that, despite the obstacles women still face, #WomenThatDo know how to raise awareness of present gender inequalities … and have fun doing it.
