3 things I loved at my ENTITY Academy editorial internship

When I started at the ENTITY Academy Editorial Internship, I was excited to hone my skills and learn new ones. The academy helped me unlock skills that I didn’t even know I had.

Some skills I developed during the Academy were:

1 Graphic Design

Before the ENTITY Academy Editorial Internship, I had very minimal experience with Adobe software. My knowledge of the Adobe apps ended at photo editing. However, now that I have had a more in-depth lesson about Adobe software, I know I am capable of creating my own graphics and memes.

I now know that I am capable of starting with a blank canvas and let my imagination lead my design. I never considered myself an artistic person. However, learning PhotoShop and Illustrator has unlocked my artistic side. I am now more comfortable with allowing myself to be creative without worrying about not knowing how to draw or worrying about what others think.

2 SEO

Learning how to write SEO articles helped me to hone in my writing more. Learning SEO allowed me to put myself in the reader’s shoes to make content that they would want to read and look for. Writing SEO articles forced me to make my writing more concise but also more engaging.

Learning the SEO aspect of online writing also taught me the importance of ranking on Google. You’re not only focusing on ranking over your competitors, you’re also ensuring that you are proving yourself credible to Google, so readers can find you. It is a constant reminder to put yourself in the readers’ shoes and make content they would care about.

3 Marketing

Prior to completing the ENTITY Academy Editorial Internship, the thought of marketing would make me cringe. I am not a fan of marketing, sales, or anything of that nature.

However, getting the opportunity to market The Love Yourself Summit showed me that marketing could actually be fun. It was interesting to think of ways to reach our target audience. I also enjoyed implementing our plan and getting the opportunity to hit the streets and social media thanks to our efforts.

Developing a marketing plan for the summit showed me that there is more to marketing than just numbers and analytics. Marketing also allows you to be creative with your materials and with implementing the overall plan.

The ENTITY Academy Editorial Internship taught me skills that I did not know I could ever have or learn. Getting firsthand experience in graphic design, SEO writing and marketing has shown me that I am capable of accomplishing anything. Learning these skills also taught me that I am not stuck within the role of a writer–I can be anything I want to be and define my career on my terms.
