Entity creates a top ten list of movies that make you want to be a better human being, from "The Help" to "Forrest Gump."

Stuck in a rut and feeling like you need to spice up your everyday routine? Snuggling up on the couch with your favorite snacks and turning on a great movie might just do the trick.

If you’re feeling unmotivated, these are the movies that will tug at your heartstrings and make you want to reach for more in life.

1 THE HELP

While the plot of this movie is unexpected, it will tug at your heartstrings without fail. Set in 1960s, this movie tells the story of  a young, open-minded author (Emma Stone) who wants to write about African-American women working as maids. Over time, she observes and records their opinions of their white employers in the racially tense South. This film delves into how women deal with hardship while tackling issues of race in America’s past.

2 FORREST GUMP

This is one of Hollywood’s cult classics for a good reason. Tom Hanks is brilliant as Forrest, who, despite his disadvantages, doesn’t let anything stop him from pursuing his dreams. His story will inspire you to channel a sense of optimism through times of adversity.

3 THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS

From rags to riches, Christopher Gardner, played by Will Smith, eventually achieves great success. Once a homeless single father, Gardner goes against all odds and works his way to become a successful stockbroker. He shows us that tenacity and inner strength are instrumental in achieving our goals.

4 SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK

Pat, played by Bradley Cooper, loses his job and wife, which results in him having to spend time in a mental institution while he copes with his bipolar disorder. Once he returns home, he meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), who is dealing with her own struggles. The pair collaborate to do something unexpected, which highlights their individual journeys with mental health issues, but also their desire to become better people. This movie is filled with an authenticity that will bring you to tears.

5 127 HOURS

Based on a true story, “127 Hours” is a firsthand account of a climber, played by James Franco, whose arm is trapped under a boulder in the desert of Moab, Utah. When there is clearly no one coming for him, he has to take desperate measures for his life. This personal narrative might be gut wrenching, but it just might change your outlook on life.

6 ROCKY

Rocky Balboa, played by Sylvester Stallone, is an underdog who has the chance to fight heavyweight champion, Apollo Creed. Balboa goes for it with a sense of conviction that will inspire even the best of us.

7 SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE

This movie takes place in the slums of India. Stylishly shot, it features the story of 18-year-old Jamal Malik, played by Dev Patel, on the Indian version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.” After surviving a rough childhood on the streets of Mumbai, Malik has the chance to use his smarts on the game show.

8 FREEDOM WRITERS

Set in Long Beach, California, high school teacher Erin Gruwell (Hilary Swank) aims to inspire her own students to make a change in their lives through journal writing. Her encouragement might just make your own creative juices flow.

9 DEAD POETS SOCIETY

A teacher in an all boys’ preparatory school, John Keating, played by Robin Williams, sets out to change how students learn at the traditional institution. Recognizing the pressure and high standards to which many of his students are held, Keating guides them of their shells and helps them experience life more freely. Keating’s influence will extend to you, making you feel uplifted and optimistic.

10 SCHINDLER’S LIST

This film is set in Poland during World War II. Businessman Oskar Schindler joins the Nazi party and employs Jewish workers at his company, but when the SS searches for Jews, Schindler protects his workers. This award-winning movie is listed as one of the American Film Institute’s greatest films of all time.
