When you feel like changing your hair, what kind of style do you go for? Sometimes you may be courageous enough to chop off the luscious locks you spent two years growing, but other times you may not want to make that kind of commitment. The solution? Bangs.

Bangs have been around for decades and they’ve definitely evolved through the years. As CNN writes, “Bangs may be a modern red carpet staple, but they have a long history in Hollywood.” From wispy to blunt-cut to feathered, the fringe has changed drastically from Audrey Hepburn’s “baby bangs” in the 1950s to Christina Applegate’s “mall hair” bangs in the 1980s.

Watch Allure‘s video above to see how style preferences have changed and how celebrities like Irene Castle, Jennifer Aniston and Zooey Deschanel have influenced the trends! Would you wear any of these styles?
