It seems almost impossible to imitate the fashion icons that we see on Instagram nowadays. Unfortunately, most of us don’t get paid to take trendy pictures in a three thousand dollar fit (but hey, we can dream, right?). What we can do, though, is get creative in finding outfit pieces that resemble your favorite influencer’s look, but at a fraction of the cost.

Here are some ways you can dress expensive without breaking the bank:

1. Keep it neutral.

Neutral colors are a major go-to on your quest of looking more upscale. These colors include beige, ivory, white, grey, and so on. That’s not to say that you shouldn’t buy that neon yellow bomber jacket that you’ve been gawking over for weeks. But, you want to try and keep things “lite” if you want to maintain a luxe look. Keep in mind that dressing expensive isn’t all about the jewels and obscure fashion that we see strutting down the red carpet.

Remember, the simplest looks can appear the most luxurious. You want to pull an outfit together with just the right amount of edgy to make a statement.

2. Invest in a statement piece.

Owning at least one statement piece can turn your entire outfit into something superior. Whether it be a pair of Balenciaga tennis shoes or a Saint Laurent bag, pairing a luxury item with a $20 Zara top can make all the difference.

One stop in Chinatown could potentially help you find a convincing counterfeit and save you a thousand bucks. But, you’ll feel a lot better about your look if you’re sporting an authentic luxe piece rather than a fake. Plus, people in the fashion industry can always sniff out counterfeit luxury items. That could be an embarrassing (and illegal!) encounter if they approach you about it, so invest in the real deal.

3. Throw in some texture.

If you want to add some value to your look but don’t want the hefty price tag, try incorporating textures. A perfect example of this is wearing things like imitation furs and leathers that look just like the real thing. H&M has a huge variety of faux fur jackets that can turn a simple outfit into a lavish look for less than fifty dollars.

4. Get your nails done.

Looking expensive isn’t just about the clothes you wear or the bags you carry. There are some small modifications that need to be taken into consideration as well. Having a fresh set of nails is everything when you’re trying to portray an upscale image to the public eye. If you don’t believe me, look to the world’s youngest self-made billionaire, Kylie Jenner, for answers.

There’s no restrictions or limitations when it comes to choosing a nail color and shape, so have fun with it!

5. Rock tiny glasses.

Last summer brought us an abundance of treasures, one of those being the tiny glasses trend that took the fashion industry by storm. Model Bella Hadid has single-handedly brought these retro frames back from the 90s and into the must-have items of 2019. It looks like they’re not going anywhere for the summer of 2020 either!

Tiny glasses are the perfect accessory to dress expensive and to spice up any look and add some edginess to it. They can even be found on Amazon for less than $15!

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to dress expensive. If you’re smart with your money and can keep up with the trends, you’re already on the right track. Most importantly, flaunt it! If you have a confident attitude and walk, no one will really care what you’re wearing on your feet. If you own your style, folks will kill to be in your shoes, even if they were $15 at H&M.
