Be Sustainable and Environmentally Friendly

Run by a mother-daughter duo in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, Supercrush Scrunchies (previously called, “Bunhead Scrunchies”) are handmade from locally-sourced material. Not only that, but you can check out their Instagram Stories Highlights to learn about their environmentally friendly packaging. Their aim? To save you money on shipping while also using packaging that can be repurposed and recycled. In a personal interview, brand owner Courtney Peters said:

“Especially in the fashion industry, we see so much waste and excess when it comes to production and shipping. As a small business, we’re passionate about minimizing our environmental impact, which is why all of the materials we use to ship orders are recyclable and/or reusable. Sustainable practices have been weaved into our company culture and we’re excited to have a team that is excited about our goal to create products that are kind to your hair and also to the environment.”

Why turn to fast fashion for your hair accessories when a sustainable business run by women is doing it better?

Support Your Local Girl Gang

The idea was first dreamed up by a group of girlfriends. Today, Supercrush is still a local, woman-run business, with mother-daughter duo Shelby Slater and Courtney Peters at its head.

“We are so proud to be a women-run business and it’s a great joy to be able to invest back into our community and create flexible employment for local women.”

They’re gaining momentum, and they’re not stopping any time soon.

Supercrush founder Courtney Peters first launched the brand at a Seattle Busines Babes launch party. Since then, the brand has been invited to speak at Whiskey Wiseman: Women of Influence. They’ve also participated as a panelist at a Vancity Business Babes’ event centering around “Creating Balance.” These are some busy boss ladies!

The Supercrush Scrunchies brand has gained attention from The Vancouver Sun, and at one point was partnering with Redken. When asked about the partnership, Peters was excited to share:

“We were so thrilled when Redken asked us to partner with them for the BC launch of their new, all-natural, vegan line called “Nature + Science”. It was a natural fit since both of our brands are passionate about creating products that are both kind to your hair, as well as the environment. Salons across BC that carry the new Redken line are offering their customers a free Supercrush scrunchie gift with purchase.”

If you aim to support local women in business (as you should), then Supercrush Scrunchies needs to be on your “Ones-To-Watch” list.

Supercrush Scrunchies cares about our hair: they know we need it to look cute while also staying comfortable and healthy.

“When we’re sourcing our fabrics we always ask: would this feel good, look good, and perform well in our customer’s hair? We know women want fabrics that are kind to their hair. Natural and organic fabrics such as silk and linen have been very popular for us so we continue to use them in each collection we launch. We’re also excited about different weaves of cotton which allow so much variety in the look and feel of the finished product.”
