But a good amount of stars have opted to save themselves for marriage. Aside from Ciara and Russell Wilson – who recently welcomed their first child to the world – here are five stars who kept their purity rings on until the wedding.
Despite Jessica Simpson’s status as a sex symbol, the celeb waited until her marriage to Nick Lachey to lose her virginity. Prompted by her religious upbringing, Jessica wore her purity ring since age 12.
“It was the most amazing moment of my life,” Simpson said, reflecting on her wedding night to Lachey. “I’m so lucky I didn’t lose my virginity in the back of a Jeep or something. Instead, I had this amazing, elaborate wedding and I topped it off with that.”
Yes, the Brazilian beauty of Victoria’s Secret was a virgin until her marriage to basketball star Marko Jaric. She grew up as a devout Catholic and explained in a GQ interview her belief that sex was reserved only for married couples.
“I don’t care [how men respond]” Lima said. “They have to respect that this is my choice. If there’s no respect, that means they don’t want me.”
Now married with two children, the “Sister Sister” star has spoken candidly about her sex life in interviews. In a HOT 97 clip, Mowry confessed that she did not lose her virginity until she was 29 years old.
“I don’t know how to explain this. I’m religious, so I waited until I was 29 to lose my virginity,” she revealed. “You may not understand this [but] I did it, then I felt guilty, then I became celibate until I got married.”
Similar to her her “Grey’s Anatomy” character, April, Sarah Drew didn’t lose her virginity until she married her husband, Peter Lanfer. She was 21 years when the couple tied the knot in 2002.
“I think in the media, Christians are the butt of every joke or they are portrayed running around condemning everyone to hell,” Drew told Fox when discussing her “Grey’s” character. “For April, the first thing that was revealed was she was a virgin. I waited until I was married to have sex so I understood April’s motivations.”
Comedian, actress and SNL superstar Tina Fey waited until she was 24 and married to composer Jeff Richmond to toss aside her purity ring. Fey said to David Letterman in an interview that she just “couldn’t give it away.”
“See, all the other people that was a choice on their part,” Fey elaborated. “That one lady’s a Victoria’s Secret model. She made a choice … I couldn’t give it away.”
